Our history

In 2006, the Minnesota District Advisory Board, led by District Superintendent Dr. Richard Sickels, decided to begin Missionary work among Hispanics in the State of Minnesota. To this end, the Director of Hispanic Ministries for the US-Canada Region, Dr. Roberto Hodgson, was invited to assist in consultations related to the beginning of the work. During this process and providentially, Priest René Franco, a Nazarene pastor originally from El Salvador, mentioned to Dr. Hodgson that he had been in Minnesota preaching and that he knows good Christians in the area who could support him in his research.

In August 2006, Dr. Sickels and the Advisory Board invited Priest Saúl Carranza from Guatemala to come see the area and talk with them about the possibilities of working as a Church Planting Missionary among the Hispanics of Minnesota. The Consulting Board interviewed Priest Carranza and agreed on the guidelines for an eventual hiring. On that occasion, Pastor Carranza and Dr. Hodgson interviewed with Emilio Campos and Oscar López who provided valuable information about the Hispanic work in Minnesota.

In September 2006, Dr. Richard Sickels and the Advisory Board authorized the hiring of Priest Saúl Carranza to be the coordinator of the Hispanic Ministry in Minnesota.

Arrival of the Carranza family

The Carranza family arrived in Minnesota from Guatemala on January 15, 2007. At first, only their son Marcos, then 13 years old, accompanied them. Later, their other son, Saúl Jr. joined them. The district superintendent and his wife waited for them at the airport with the essential equipment. Coats, hats, gloves and snow boots. It was snowing and the temperature was 15° Celsius below zero. The first three months of his stay in Minnesota were spent getting to know the District in the company of the District Superintendent and his wife Ronda. Although the Carranza family was invited to work with Hispanics, there was only one Hispanic family in the entire district, and they were to meet them several months later. Saúl remembers: The most difficult thing at the beginning was learning to live in temperatures that sometimes reached 30°C below zero. At these temperatures, the body accustomed to the temperatures of Guatemala suffers very strong pain in the bones, the face freezes easily and the hands hurt horribly. Marcos and Cony often had nosebleeds due to the dryness of the environment. The second conflict was with the language. Although we were supposed to know basic English, upon arriving in the United States we realized that we knew technical English and church jargon. Unfortunately, we didn't understand everyday English, the idioms and jokes of Minnesotans and we still don't understand it well. The culture shock was horrible. In sessions or services, when we made an extra effort to understand, we would get a headache, we would feel like we were starting to short of breath and everything would spin. The one who didn't go through that was Marcos, who adapted very quickly. The beginning of the work was not easy. We didn't know Hispanics and we didn't know where to look for them. We couldn't go out into the streets because the only thing we found was cold and snow. Furthermore, United States law does not give freedom to go knocking door to door as we would do in Latin America. The first family that approached and that spoke Spanish was the Lima family. Rosendo and Leila attended Brooklyn Center Church, and were originally from Cape Verde, Africa. Although their native language is Portuguese, they were the first resource that God gave us to work with. Then the López family arrived. Oscar and Sonia, originally from El Salvador and of Nazarene origin. They, not finding a Hispanic Church of the Nazarene in Minnesota, congregated in another denomination. When we informed them that the Church was beginning Hispanic work, they arrived at Brooklyn Center and returned to their Church. The López family had been praying for eight years for the Church of the Nazarene to begin Hispanic work in Minnesota. These were the good people with whom God blessed the beginning of our Ministry in the USA. In April 2007, a Sunday School class began in Spanish. Cony, my wife, was the teacher and Lima and López were the students. By then, I was traveling every Sunday to a different American Church presenting the Hispanic Ministry throughout the District. With the arrival of spring it was now possible to go out into the streets and get to know the City. With my son Marcos we started going to the soccer fields to play and make friends to invite them to Church. The first service was on May 10, when we celebrated Mother's Day. There were four mothers invited, and that day God granted us the first conversion. María Edith Silva, Colombian, had gone shopping at a Hispanic store where we gave her an invitation to come to the service. When she read Church of the Nazarene she remembered that it was the Church that some members of her family attended in Cali, Colombia. She came to the service and was the first fruit that God granted us.

I. The triune God

We believe in one eternally existing and infinite God, Creator and Sustainer, Sovereign of the universe; that He alone is God, holy in nature, attributes and purpose. The God, who is holy love and light, is triune in his essential being, revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Il. Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Divine Trinity; that He is eternally one with the Father; that he was incarnated by the power of the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary, so that two entire and perfect natures, that is, deity and humanity, were united in one person, true God and true man, the God- man.

We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that he certainly rose from the dead and took up his body again, together with everything pertaining to the perfection of human nature, with which he ascended to heaven and is there interceding for us.

Ill. The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Divine Trinity, who is always present and effectively active in and with the Church of Christ, convicting the world of sin, regenerating those who repent and believe, sanctifying believers. and leading into all truth which is in Jesus Christ.

IV. The Holy Scripture

We believe in the plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, by which we accept the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments given by divine inspiration, infallibly revealing the will of God regarding us in everything necessary for our salvation, so that no impose as an Article of Faith any teaching that is not in them.

V. Sin, original and personal

We believe that sin entered the world through the disobedience of our first parents, and death through sin. We believe that sin is of two kinds: original sin or depravity and actual or personal sin.

We believe that original sin, or depravity, is that corruption of the nature of all the descendants of Adam, which is why every human being is far removed from the original justice or state of purity of our first parents at the time of their creation. He is adverse to God, he has no spiritual life, he is inclined to evil and this continually. Furthermore, we believe that original sin continues to exist in the new life of the regenerate until the heart is completely cleansed by baptism with the Holy Spirit.

We believe that original sin differs from actual sin in that it constitutes an inherited propensity to actual sin for which no one is responsible until the divinely provided remedy has been slighted or rejected.

We believe that actual or personal sin is the willful violation of a known law of God committed by a morally responsible person. Therefore, it should not be confused with involuntary or inevitable failures, weaknesses, faults, errors, failures or other deviations from a perfect standard of conduct, which are residues of the fall. However, such innocent effects do not include attitudes or responses contrary to the Spirit of Christ, which can properly be called sins of the spirit. We believe that personal sin is primarily and essentially a violation of the law of love and that, in relation to Christ, sin can be defined as unbelief.

VI. The atonement

VIlI. Repentance

We believe that repentance, which is a sincere and complete change of mind regarding sin, with recognition of personal guilt and voluntary separation from sin, is required of all who by action or purpose have become sinners against God. IX. Justification, regeneration and adoption

We believe that justification is that benign and judicial act of God, by which He grants full forgiveness of all guilt, complete remission of the penalty for sins committed, and acceptance as righteous of those who believe in Jesus Christ and receive Him as Savior. and Lord.

We believe that regeneration, or new birth, is that work of God's grace, by which the moral nature of the repentant believer is spiritually quickened and he receives a distinctively spiritual life, capable of experiencing faith, love and obedience. X. Christian holiness and entire sanctification

We believe that sanctification is the work of God by which he transforms believers into the likeness of Christ. This is accomplished through the grace of God by the Holy Spirit in the initial sanctification, or regeneration (simultaneous with justification), the entire sanctification and the continuing work of perfecting the believer by the Holy Spirit, culminating in glorification, in which we are completely conformed to the image of the Son.

We believe that entire sanctification is the act of God, subsequent to regeneration, by which believers are made free from original sin or depravity, and are brought to a state of entire devotion to God and the holy obedience of love made perfect.

It is effected by the filling or baptism with the Holy Spirit; and in a single experience it includes the cleansing of sin from the heart and the permanent and continuous indwelling of the Holy Spirit, equipping the believer for life and service.

Entire sanctification is provided by the blood of Jesus, effected instantly by grace through faith and preceded by entire consecration. The Holy Spirit witnesses to this work and state of grace. This experience is also known by various names that represent its different phases, such as "Christian perfection", "perfect love", "purity of heart", "fullness or baptism".

Without such purposeful effort, one's testimony may be weakened, and grace may be dulled and ultimately lost.

By participating in the means of grace, especially Christian communion, spiritual disciplines, and the sacraments of the church, believers grow in grace and sincere love for God and neighbor.

XI. Church

We believe in the Church, the community that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord, the covenant people of God renewed in Christ, the Body of Christ called to be one by the Holy Spirit through the Word.

God calls the Church to express her life in the unity and communion of the Spirit; in worship through the preaching of the Word of God, in the observance of the sacraments and the ministry in his name; in obedience to Christ, holy living and mutual accountability. The mission of the Church in the world is to share the redemptive work and reconciling ministry of Christ in the power of the Spirit. The Church fulfills her mission by making disciples through evangelism, education, showing compassion, working for justice, and bearing witness to the kingdom of God.

The church is a historical reality that is organized in culturally adapted forms; it exists both as local congregations and as a universal body; sets apart people called by God for specific ministries. God calls the church to live under his rule in anticipation of the consummation at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

XII. The baptism

We believe that Christian baptism, ordained by our Lord, is a sacrament signifying the acceptance of the benefits of the atonement of Jesus Christ, which is to be administered to believers, and which declares their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and their full purpose of obedience in holiness and justice. As baptism is a symbol of the new covenant, young children may be baptized, at the request of their parents or guardians, who will promise the necessary Christian teaching. Baptism can be administered by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, depending on the candidate's preference.

XIlI. The holy supper

We believe that the memorial and communion supper instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is essentially a sacrament of the New Testament, declaring his atoning death, by whose merits believers have life and salvation, and the promise of all spiritual blessings in Christ. It is distinctively for those who are prepared to reverently appreciate its significance and thereby announce the death of the Lord until He comes again. Being the feast of communion, only those who have faith in Christ and love for the saints should be called to participate in it.

XIV. Divine healing

We believe in the biblical doctrine of divine healing and urge our people to offer the opportunity to make the prayer of faith for the healing of the sick. We also believe that God heals through medical science.

XV. The second coming of Christ
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will come again; that we who are alive at the time of his coming will not precede those who have fallen asleep in Christ Jesus; but if we have abided in Him, we will be caught up with the resurrected saints to meet the Lord in the air, and we will always be with Him.

XVI. The resurrection, judgment and destiny
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, that the bodies of both the just and the unjust will be resurrected and united with their spirits "those who did good will rise to the resurrection of life, and those who did evil will rise to the resurrection of damnation."

We believe in future judgment in which every person will appear before God to be judged according to his deeds in this life. We believe that those who are saved by believing in Jesus Christ our Lord and following Him in obedience are assured of glorious and eternal life; and that those who pe

I. El Dios trino

X. La santidad cristiana y la entera santificación

Creemos que la santificación es la obra de Dios por medio de la cual transforma a los creyentes a la semejanza de Cristo. Creemos que la entera santificación es el acto de Dios, subsecuente a la regeneración, por el cual los creyentes son hechos libres del pecado original o depravación, y son llevados a un estado de entera devoción a Dios y a la santa obediencia de amor hecho perfecto.

Es efectuada por la llenura o el bautismo con el Espíritu Santo; y en una sola experiencia incluye la limpieza de pecado del corazón y la morada permanente y continua del Espíritu Santo, capacitando al creyente para la vida y el servicio.

XI. La iglesia

Creemos en la Iglesia, la comunidad que confiesa a Jesucristo como Señor, el pueblo del pacto de Dios renovado en Cristo, el Cuerpo de Cristo llamado a ser uno por el Espíritu Santo mediante la Palabra.

Dios llama a la Iglesia a expresar su vida en la unidad y la comunión del Espiritu; en adoración por medio de la predicación de la Palabra de Dios, en la observancia de los sacramentos y el ministerio en su nombre; en la obediencia a Cristo, la vida santa y la mutua rendición de cuentas. La misión de la Iglesia en el mundo es compartir la obra redentora y el ministerio reconciliador de Cristo en el poder del Espíritu. XII. El bautismo

Creemos que el bautismo cristiano, ordenado por nuestro Señor, es un sacramento que significa la aceptación de los beneficios de la expiación de Jesucristo, que debe administrarse a los creyentes, y que declara su fe en Jesucristo como su Salvador y su pleno propósito de obediencia en santidad y justicia. Como el bautismo es un símbolo del nuevo pacto, se puede bautizar a niños pequeños, a petición de sus padres o tutores, quienes prometerán la enseñanza cristiana necesaria. Creemos en la doctrina biblica de la sanidad divina e instamos a nuestro pueblo a ofrecer la oportunidad de hacer la oración de fe para la sanidad de los enfermos. Creemos también que Dios sana a través de la ciencia médica.

XV. La segunda venida de Cristo

Creemos que el Señor Jesucristo vendrá otra vez; que los que vivamos en el momento de su venida no precederemos a los que durmieron en Cristo Jesús; mas si hemos permanecido en El, seremos arrebatados con los santos resucitados para reunirnos con el Señor en el aire, y estaremos siempre con EI.

XVI. La resurrección, el juicio y el destino

Creemos en la resurrección de los muertos, que los cuerpos tanto de los justos como de los injustos serán resucitados y unidos con sus espíritus "los que hicieron lo bueno, saldrán a resurrección de vidammas los que hicieron lo malo, a resurrección de condenación".

Creemos en el juicio futuro en el cual toda persona comparecerá ante Dios para ser juzgada según sus hechos en esta vida. Creemos que a los que son salvos por creer en Jesucristo nuestro Señor y le siguen en obediencia se les asegura la vida gloriosa y eterna; y que los que pe

Nuestra Historia

En el 2006 la Junta Consultora del Distrito Minnesota, dirigida por el superintendente de Distrito Dr. Richard Sickels, decidió iniciar la obra Misionera entre los hispanos del Estado de Minnesota. Con este fin, el Director de Ministerios Hispanos para la Región US-Canadá, el Dr. Roberto Hodgson, fue invitado para que ayudara en las consultas relacionadas al inicio de la obra. Durante este proceso y de manera providencial, el presbítero René Franco, Pastor nazareno originario de El Salvador, le mencionó al Dr. Hodgson que él había estado en Minnesota predicando y que conoce a buenos cristianos en el área que pudieran apoyarle en su investigación.

El Dr. Sickels y la Junta Consultora invitaron en agosto del 2006 al presbítero Saúl Carranza de Guatemala para que llegara a conocer el área y conversara con ellos sobre las posibilidades de trabajar como Misionero plantador de Iglesias entre los hispanos de Minnesota. La Junta Consultora entrevistó al presbítero Carranza y acordaron los lineamientos para una eventual contratación. En esa ocasión el pastor Carranza y el Dr. Hodgson se entrevistaron con Emilio Campos y Oscar López quienes proporcionaron valiosa información sobre la obra hispana en Minnesota.

En septiembre de 2006, el Dr. Richard Sickels y la Junta Consultora autorizaron la contratación del presbítero Saúl Carranza, para que fuese el coordinador del Ministerio Hispano en Minnesota.

Llegada de la familia Carranza

La familia Carranza llegó a Minnesota procedente de Guatemala el 15 de enero de 2007. Al principio los acompañó solo su hijo Marcos, entonces de 13 años. Después se les unió su otro hijo, Saúl Jr. El superintendente de distrito y su esposa los esperaron en el aeropuerto con el equipo indispensable. Abrigos, gorras, guantes y botas para nieve. Estaba nevando y la temperatura era de 15° centígrados bajo cero. Los primeros tres meses de estadía en Minnesota fueron para conocer el Distrito en compañía del superintendente de Distrito y su esposa Ronda. Aunque la familia Carranza fue invitada para trabajar con los hispanos, solo había una familia hispana en todo el distrito, y la iban a conocer varios meses más tarde. Saúl recuerda: Lo más difícil del comienzo fue aprender a vivir en temperaturas que a veces llegaban a 30°C bajo cero. A esas temperaturas el cuerpo acostumbrado a las temperaturas de Guatemala sufre dolores muy fuertes en los huesos, la cara se congela fácilmente y las manos duelen horriblemente. A Marcos y Cony muchas veces les sangraba la nariz por lo seco del ambiente. El segundo conflicto fue con el idioma. Aunque se suponía que dominábamos un inglés básico, al llegar a Estados Unidos nos dimos cuenta de que sabíamos el inglés técnico y la jerga de Iglesia. Lamentablemente, el inglés de todos los días, los modismos y las bromas de los minesotanos no los entendíamos y no lo entendemos bien todavía. El choque cultural fue horrible. En sesiones o servicios, cuando hacíamos un esfuerzo extra para entender, nos daba dolor de cabeza, sentíamos que nos comenzaba a faltar el aíre y todo daba vueltas. El que no pasó por eso fue Marcos quien se adaptó muy rápidamente. El comienzo de la obra no fue sencillo. No conocíamos a los hispanos y no sabíamos dónde buscarlos. No podíamos salir a las calles porque lo único que encontrábamos era frío y nieve. Además, la ley de Estados Unidos no da libertad para ir tocando puerta por puerta como lo haríamos en Latinoamérica. La primera familia que se acercó y que hablaba español fue la familia Lima. Rosendo y Leila asistían a la Iglesia de Brooklyn Center, y eran originarios de Cabo Verde, en África. Aunque su idioma nativo es el portugués, ellos fueron el primer recurso que Dios nos dio para trabajar. Luego llegó la familia López. Oscar y Sonia, originarios de El Salvador y de origen nazareno. Ellos, al no hallar Iglesia del Nazareno hispana en Minnesota, se congregaban en otra denominación. Cuando les comunicamos que la Iglesia estaba iniciando obra hispana, ellos llegaron a Brooklyn Center y regresaron a su Iglesia. La familia López había estado orando por ocho años para que la Iglesia del Nazareno iniciara obra hispana en Minnesota. Esta fue la buena gente con la que Dios bendijo el inicio de nuestro Ministerio en USA. En el mes de abril de 2007 se inició una clase de Escuela Dominical en español. Cony, mi esposa, fue la maestra y los Lima y López los alumnos. Para entonces, yo viajaba cada domingo por una Iglesia americana diferente presentando el Ministerio hispano por todo el Distrito. Con la llegada de la primavera ya se pudo salir a las calles e ir a conocer la Ciudad. Con mi hijo Marcos comenzamos a ir a los campos de fútbol a jugar y hacer amigos para invitarlos a la Iglesia. El primer servicio fue el 10 de mayo, cuando celebramos el día de la madre. Hubo cuatro madres invitadas, y ese día Dios nos concedió la primera conversión. María Edith Silva, colombiana, había ido de compras a una tienda hispana donde le entregamos una invitación para que llegara al culto. Cuando leyó Iglesia del Nazareno recordó que era la Iglesia a la que algunos miembros de su familia asistían en Cali, Colombia. Ella llegó al servicio y fue el primer fruto que Dios nos concedió.

El positivismo es un factor esencial para conseguir el éxito. En lugar de darle vueltas a las cosas que no han salido excesivamente bien, piense en las que sí lo han hecho.

Escriba sobre algo que sepa. Si no sabe mucho sobre un tema en concreto que sea del interés de los lectores, invite a un experto a que lo haga por usted.

Hable con su público

Nadie conoce a su público mejor que usted, por lo que téngalo en cuenta a la hora de escribir las entradas del blog. Escriba sobre cosas que le preocupen. Si tiene una página de Facebook corporativa, consúltela para encontrar temas sobre los que escribir.

Dedique un rato a planificar la publicación
